Three of those are based in Philadelphia, and they're all new, having opened sometime since 2022.

The Philadelphia restaurants on the NYT list are:

El Chingon, a Mexican restaurant at 1524 S 10th Street

Chef Juan Carlos "takes us home to the Pueblan kitchen where his mother taught him to cook," Nikita Richardson writes. "El Chingon doesn’t clamor for attention or traffic in gimmicks; it’s simply a neighborhood restaurant, albeit one of the highest order."

My Loup, a French restaurant at 2005 Walnut St. in Rittenhouse Square.

Sara Bonisteel says My Loup is a weeknight spot that "feels like a dinner party."

Kalaya, an authentic Thai kitchen on 4 West Palmer St. in Fishtown.

According to Brett Anderson, Kalaya is run by former flight attendant Chutatip Sunatranon, who has partnered with Defined Hospitality, a local restaurant company, that "hasn’t muted her forcefully spiced, luminous cooking."

Anderson suggests (urges) the shaw muang, venison curry, and goong phao.
